Plate No. 02 What you are building
Platform bed plans PDF to build a low Japanese style floating bed frame from ordinary 2x4, 2x6 and 1x4 lumber, in twin, full, queen, king or California king. If you can put together flat-pack furniture, you can build this: numbered steps with one clear drawing each, a parts list with letters, a cut list and a shopping list for each size.
The build: a low platform bed with the deck about 10-1/2 in off the floor on a slatted deck, carried by a wide frame that sits on a narrow base set in 4 in, so the bed looks as if it hovers. A flat ledge about 5-1/2 in wide runs around three sides, 1-1/2 in above the slats. A tall headboard of vertical slats reaches 11 in past the bed on each side, with optional nightstand ledges at both ends. Queen, king and California king get a center beam on center legs. Every board is a standard 8 ft 2x4, 2x6 or 1x4. The queen is 6 ft wide and 7 ft 4-3/4 in long (headboard 7 ft 10 in wide and 2 ft 10 in high) for a 60 x 80 in mattress. About 9 to 12 hours of work over a weekend, depending on size.

How do you build a DIY platform bed frame?
Build a rectangular frame of 2x lumber on a recessed base so the bed appears to float, add a center beam and slats at the spacing your mattress needs, then finish the faces. These plans cover twin to king with a cut list and materials list for each size.
This is a digital download, no physical item ships. These plans are a guide only: check the slat spacing your mattress warranty asks for (every gap in these plans is under 3 in, and some mattress makers ask for less) and build at your own risk. Queen and wider beds need the center beam and legs. Use straight, dry lumber and wood screws, and check every screw and joint once a year. The mattress, hardware and lumber are not included. Colors can look a little different on your screen and printer. For personal use only; please do not resell or share the files.
