Plate No. 16 What you are building
Lean to greenhouse plans PDF with three complete plan sets: an 8x12 and a 9x12 lean-to greenhouse that stands against a house or garage wall, and a freestanding 8x16 gable greenhouse. Twin-wall polycarbonate glazing, wood frame, a door, roof vents and an optional potting bench.
The lean-tos: 8 ft and 9 ft out from the wall by 12 ft along it. A treated ledger on the house wall carries 2x8 rafters in sloped hangers, the front wall is 6 ft 6 in tall, and the roof falls away from the house at 3/12. The plans cover the ledger screws, the wall flashing, a note on checking the wall before you build, a sloped end wall with a 36 x 72 in door, hinged roof vent lids at the house end, a front louver, and two benches, one of them a potting bench with a low shelf. The freestanding 8x16 has a 4/12 gable roof, a 36 x 72 in door, hinged vent lids on both slopes and two benches. Every member (rafters, studs, header, bench parts and the ledger fasteners) is checked against a stated load, and the plans give spans, panel layout, vent area and anchor figures.
Who these plans are for
Home gardeners comfortable with a circular saw, a drill and a level who want a greenhouse against a sunny wall, or a freestanding one, with a shopping list for the lumberyard and the panel supplier.

Before you build
How much does it cost to build the Lean-To Greenhouse?
Our estimate for the materials in the 8 x 12 lean-to is about $1,820 to $2,620 at typical home-center prices. Lumber prices vary a lot by region and season, so the plan set includes a workbook where you type your own prices and the total works itself out.
What sizes are included?
This set includes 8 x 12 lean-to, 9 x 12 lean-to and 8 x 16 freestanding, each with its own drawings, cut list and materials list.
Do I need advanced woodworking skills?
Home gardeners comfortable with a circular saw, a drill and a level who want a greenhouse against a sunny wall, or a freestanding one, with a shopping list for the lumberyard and the panel supplier.
Are these engineered plans?
No. They are generic DIY plans, not engineered or stamped drawings. Each member is checked against a stated design load, and the design basis is printed in the plans, but you are responsible for safe construction, local codes and safe use.

This is a digital download, no physical item ships. These are generic DIY plans, not engineered or stamped drawings, and the greenhouses have not been tested to any standard. The lean-to plans only apply to a sound house wall with solid framing behind it, and not where snow can slide onto the roof from above; the plans say how to check. Snow load, wind, permits and setbacks are local: check with your building office, and call 811 before you dig. The builder is responsible for safe construction and use.
